There’s a whole myriad of reasons why you might need to relocate your oil tank. Perhaps you’ve moved to a new property and the existing tank just doesn’t fit logistically with your outdoor layout. Or, maybe, you simply need to relocate your tank as part of a renovation or extension project on your property.

Whatever the reason for finding a new home for your oil tank, relocating it is no small undertaking and will always require a qualified, professional team to carry it out. As specialists in oil tank removal, replacement, and relocation, with years of experience and expertise in the industry, CT Tanks will efficiently reposition your oil tank with minimal disruption and fuss.

Let’s take a look at the relocation process in detail:

What you need to know

Before the oil tank relocation task begins, you will first require an assessment to be performed under the latest building regulations. This must be carried out by a qualified technician who is able to determine the environmental and fire risks that might be involved with the new oil tank installation.

This legal framework makes sure that the relocation process is completed to the required industry and regulatory standards and that the new installation is lawfully compliant—and above all, safe. The tank’s new position will also need to consider the existing plant life, landscaping elements, and anything else that might be affected by the introduction of a new fuel storage container.

How we relocate your tank

We start by transferring the contents of your tank into a holding tank before creating a temporary supply in order for you to continue using your heating system while the tank is being relocated. We then dismantle the old piers and concrete or paving slab tank base and install a new base which complies with current building regulations

The tank is then fitted securely onto the new base and connected to your home’s system; at this stage, we may need to replace unfit-for-purpose pipework, as well as performing a pressure test to check the structural integrity of the remaining pipes.

We then move the oil from the holding tank back into the newly-installed tank, bleeding through pipework to your appliances and restarting where required.

Once this process is complete, we will then notify building control of the changes implemented.
